Cupra Formentor Meet & Shoot

A Beautiful Location

What do you get when you have four #Cupra Formentors in a beautiful underground #parking lot? A pure #CarPorn opportunity. Arranged by Joao in Tampere last Friday, we took the opportunity to meet, have a nice chat and coffee, enjoy a small drive on the beautiful, rainy Finnish back roads, and then finally meet at a nearly empty underground parking lot, beautifully lit with colorful LED lighting.

Other than meeting Rasmus and Henri and having great car talks, I had great company too, with a young, talented photographer and fellow #Canon shooter and Joao’s son, André, who took some really nice shots as well and had a great idea for a fantastic setup.

My weapon of choice for this set was the #Canon #R6 equipped with the excellent RF 24-105 L F4 lens. I selected around 50 breathtaking shots of these four beautiful rides.

The Cars

In the meet we had 3 versions of the Formentor and all equipped with the 4Drive AWD system. Missing out from the line-up were the 1.5 TSI 150hp FWD version and the 245 Hp Hybrid.

  1. 2.0 TSI 190: This white beauty with OEM basic 18 inch black and silver rims has a 2.0-liter TSI engine producing 190 Horsepower. In my eyes, It’s a perfect blend of power and style, making it a head-turner on the roads and a comfortable and economical winter and summer highway cruiser, but when you want to have fun, you can always go to an ice track with it.
  2. VZ3 310hp Black and Black Rims: The standard VZ3 in Finland comes with a 310-horsepower engine and a Haldedx 4Drive all-wheel-drive system. This grey Formentor offers impressive performance and a sleek design and a beautiful Cupra mode, which opens up the exhasut valves for a more angry tune.
  3. VZ3 310hp “Slightly” Modded: Another VZ3 model, but this one has been “slightly” modded for an extra edge with better suspension and much louder pop. With enhanced performance parts, it offers an exhilarating driving experience. We will get deeper into this car in the near future and shoot a special session with it.
  4. VZ5 400hp: The VZ5 is the crown jewel of the Cupra lineup, featuring the signature and much appreciated 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that pushes out a whopping 400 horsepower, YAP it’s the same engine you get in an Audi RS3. Its distinctive quad exhausts and aggressive design make it stand out from the crowd.

Car Pose 1: Back-to-Back

Our first pose of the day was a cool lineup with a back-to-back arrangement. This setup, with the cars’ lights offset to the side, creates a tantalizing visual effect. It works exceptionally well when the cars are parked on a slight down-slope, adding a new dimension to the shot. The alignment of three dark cars with one white car in front creates a compelling contrast, drawing the viewer’s eye.

The beautiful #VZ5 with its signature quad exhausts takes the rear, adding to the dramatic effect. A touch of extra lighting would have been super nice, as it would have highlighted the rear features even more, but the natural setup already made for an impressive shot. This setup works really well from the front as well as the rear

Car Pose 2: Scattered

For the next pose, we scattered the cars in a more dynamic setup. This arrangement allowed us to capture each car’s unique angles and features. We started by placing the white Formentor followed by the 3 dark beasts. From each angle you can see a beautiful feature and the fantastic body lines.

Positioning the cars at different distances and angles added depth and storytelling to the images. This method is perfect for showcasing the versatility and design details of each vehicle. Positioning the camera at different heights allows you to find new perspective, so don’t be shy.

The scattered setup, combined with vibrant LED lighting in the underground parking lot, created a visually striking scene that highlighted the Cupra Formentor’s beautiful sharp lines and powerful stance.

Finding a magical shot in this setup is quite easy to be honest, because you can now create a beautiful bokeh by highlighting one car while blurring the other; one being the foreground, and the other being the background.

Car Pose 3: Top View

For our final car pose, André (up there with the white cap and camera in the below pic) had a very great and clear idea of arranging the cars in a specific order and from the top of a small overpass bridge, so we moved to a different location in the parking lot.

From the rear, this setup might look pretty ordinary and nothing special. But when you move up to the bridge and shoot down, it’s a whole new world of discovery.

Having a lens with enough zoom range is a must in this situation, as you can shoot tightly and create a unique perspective. A lens with a focal length of 70-200mm, for instance, would be ideal for capturing detailed shots from a high vantage point. But since we are not so far away, the 24-105mm Provides enough reach for some interesting shots.

The elevated angle allows for stunning overhead shots that highlight the car’s design in a way that’s not possible from ground level. This technique also helps in isolating the car from the background, giving it a dramatic and cinematic feel while going lower provided another unique perspective.
