Extra Special

Going to the track is very a special experience. Going to the track with your very own Miata takes it to the next lever. Now add 10 more Miatas to the mix, and you have pure joy. This was my 2nd ever trackday and I have never driven on this particular track in reality nor in my virtual reality sim racing.
On Saturday 2 September 2023 I drove toward Akaa, about 40 mins away from Tampere. While I shot my onboard footage (stay tuned for the videos on my Cars & Shutter channel) I too my Canon R6 and EF 70-200 F4 L Is combo to take some shots of the rides. The road was gorgeous and filled with endless naturual beauty,
The track is absoltely gorgrous surrounded by nature and beatuful trees. It is fast, twisty, and super short. I’m talking about just 1 km long and 8 corners. The max speed you reach is around 120 in a tiny car like the 1.6 Miata.
Perfect Recipe
Raining is not uncommon in Finland, so on this particular day I woke up to a pretty nice and sunny day followed by lots of cloud formations and fastly turned into pouring rain. The perfect recipie for a beginners track car is being lightwieght, RWD, front engined, manual transmission, low power, high-revving engine.

The Miata fits the bill perfectly and provides an absolutely joyful driving experience on the track. You can easily find the limits and start playing with it slowly drifting the back end slightly but easily being able to catch it. Even though there is a lot of grip to be made with a few few basic mods, it is still quite fun to drive this little bundle of joy, and I can’t get enough of how much fun it is to drive a Miata.

A Different Ball-Game
While my tiny 1.6 110 HP Miata created smile on many occasions, I always liked to know how would the more powerful ones feel like. One of the nice Miata owners I have met is Jouni, a very well informed car enthusiast who has tuned his Miata with a Garrett Turbo, intercooler, and some other goodies, giving him upto 250Hp, of which he only set to 190 Hp.

I had the pleasure of being driven on circuit by a very capable race driver Bjorn who also showed me the magnificnet track and gave me a guided lap before going absolutely mental in this little monster. At every touch of throttle the rear end slips out and creates a beautiful motion of dancing coming out of corners.

Meeting Amazing People
As a car enthusiast you will find out that you will meet many who share your passion and taste. One of them being an awesome photographer Krister who took some awesome shot of my ride while I was on track.

I also met a very nice car enthusiast couple who both drove on the track with Civics and the EG hatch is one of my favorites and this one was running a beautiful sounding D16 variant.

My Favorites of the Day
I hope you enjoyed this blog, I will be editing the lots and lots of videos I have recorded from driving on the track and publishing it on this blog so stay tuned.
