Photography; Beyond a Hobby: Art, Meditation, Passion, and Career

A person capturing images of beautiful sunset in Kaukärvi – Finland

It was the first ever time I shot with a DSLR. It was One of my best friends, Farshid’s Canon 5D Mk 1. The photo looked absolutely gorgeous, the colors were like velvet, and the lights were spot on ! That’s the moment I fell in love with the magic of photography. That was some time in 2009… Fast forward to today, where I already retire my 70D DSLR and morved to the mirrorless era with Eos R6, I am still as much in love with the topic as I was in the beginning, if not more ! In fact, as the title suggests, I find the topic far more than just a hobby…

Photography is a journey, that starts much earlier than the moment you hit the shutter and capture the perfect shot and then when you edit them to a fine work of art… You are literally freezing time with photography so how great is that?

the journey starts with an idea, a thought, a feeling. You want to say something, but in a visual manner, and I guess a picture is worth a thousand words? lol

The amount of hard works it goes to taking a very good photo is quite underrated, I think. You have to plan everything ahead, carry heavy equipment, be ready for constant surprise elements, and at the same time have a very short window of time (usually) to snap the perfect shot. But this hard work is only half of the job. The real work is how you process your photos and how much time are you willing to invest in each individual photo for post processing.

But the thing is, from the moment I get the camera out, nothing else matters in the world to me. The only thing that counts is being able to find the most amazing way to capture the epic scene in front of me. A photo by definition is freezing the moment, and I want to be sure I do the best that I can. And When I come back to this beautiful moment I can get back to that feeling once again and relive that beautiful moment over and over again. More importantly, I get to share that moment with the rest of the world.

And what’s the bonus added of doing something passionately you ask ? … Well, you become kind of good at it ! Up to an extend that you can turn it into your main work. So you get paid for doing something you absolutely enjoy, that is the biggest hack in life in my opinion.

What Can I say about this moment except perfection? Kangasala 2019

If you have always toyed with the idea but never tried a proper camera until now, it’s time to give it a shot. I can guarantee you it will have the most positive impact in your life.
